Mission Statement

The Building Division promotes the health, safety and welfare of the community by ensuring that existing and future buildings and structures are safe for use. This is accomplished through quality plan review, inspections and the application of state-of-the-art technology by administering the provisions of thbuilding-dept-banner2e State Building Code, which provide the minimum requirements for a reasonable level of safety. The Building Division is also committed to providing a personal level of service to all of our citizens, contractors and Business neighbors.

The Building Official is a State of Connecticut Licensed Building Official, and performs all areas of review, inspection, and enforcement under the State Building Code. The Building Division enforces the Connecticut State Building Code. This includes:

  • Approving building plans for residential and commercial development
  • Performing inspections on all new construction.
  • Answering code and administrative questions and providing guidance on the permit process.
  • Providing assistance when requested at emergency scenes such as fires and building failures.

The Building Division works closely with the Bloomfield Fire Marshals, who enforce the CT State Fire Code, and with many other related agencies and utilities.

The Building Official is available in the office from 9 to 10 am, Monday through Friday for consultation. All other times are by appointment only.
