The office of the Registrar of Voters is an elected position governed by the Connecticut General Statutes, and compensated by the municipality in which the Registrars serve. The Registrars supervise, coordinate, and administer all elections: national, state, municipal, primaries, and referenda. The Registrars are responsible for voter education and organizing the annual canvass of electors. In addition, the Registrars register new voters, maintain and update files, prepare the department budget, and train election officials.
The Registrars keep current of impending and new legislation and other matters that may impact their office by attending meetings called by the Secretary of the State and through participation in the Registrars of Voters Association of Connecticut.
Although the Registrars of Voters are nominated by their respective political parties, they are, above all, public servants. Partisan politics has no place in the Registrars' office.
